Hello!

Hi I'm Maaike. I'm an artist.~anartist, a weaver. I create in time and space. The space between the threads. The dynamics between the warp and the weft. This is where creation takes place. Looking, making, reading, and thinking always have been interwoven in my practice. I weave. This is what I still do. I create interwoven space. Land. Textile.

 

My mission is to create awareness of the extremely high potential textiles can have in our culture. Textile is an important medium to communicate values, beliefs, prestige, and comfort. I fight to keep the textile heritage alive. Our common heritage. 

I was born with a natural hunger for (practical) knowledge and a good eye for what is beautiful. I learned a lot of (textile)techniques from my family at a young age. In addition, I visited different art academies and studied 2 years of art history at the university.. After a self-organized study program ‘Textile as Language’ (I studied textile crafts with 8 teachers worldwide), I finished the program with a master study. On the next page I show you my homework and my current portfolio. A life of textile knowledge. 

 

I am committed to education in manual techniques. We all need this education for our spatial insight and understanding of connections to humanity's past. Mankind and its tools.
